Summer is here, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally enjoy some outdoor time after being cooped up indoors during the long winter months. However, there’s one pesky downside to this outdoor bliss: mosquitoes. Living near a wooded area means that mosquitoes are a constant nuisance in my backyard, and as someone who has increasingly severe reactions to their bites, I’m always on the lookout for effective solutions to keep them at bay.
Last year, I discovered the Thermacell E55, a rechargeable mosquito repeller that provided a 20-foot zone of protection without any scent or noise. It quickly became my go-to outdoor essential. So, when Thermacell released an upgraded version, the EL55 Mosquito Repeller + Glow Light, I was eager to put it to the test.
Similar in size and weight to the E55, the EL55 now boasts an added glow light feature, enhancing its functionality. With a longer battery life of nine hours and a built-in rechargeable battery, this repeller is not only portable but also more convenient than ever.
What sets the EL55 apart is its effectiveness. During several weeks of testing on my patio, I found that it lived up to its claim of protecting a 20-foot area with invisible, virtually silent repellent. The inclusion of a dimmable glow light adds versatility, although I personally prefer warmer lighting.
While the EL55’s light and repeller can be used separately, using them together reduces the battery life to 5.5 hours. Additionally, the need for repellent refills can be costly, although they do provide long-lasting protection.
In comparison to other Thermacell models and traditional bug sprays, the EL55 offers a convenient and hassle-free solution to mosquito problems. With its dual functionality and three-year warranty, it’s a worry-free investment for outdoor enthusiasts like myself.
