The Housemaid – The Book That Got Me Out of My Reading Slump

I hadn’t picked up a book in months. Between work, stress, and too much screen time, I just couldn’t seem to focus long enough to enjoy anything. But a friend handed me The Housemaid and said, – Just read the first chapter. I did and let’s just say, I didn’t stop until I’d read the last chapter too.

This book completely pulled me out of my reading slump. From the first few pages, I was glued. The suspense builds in such a sneaky, clever way that I kept telling myself  just one more chapter, until I realized I was halfway through the book in one sitting. The main character felt so real flawed, unsure, but easy to root for. I found myself completely wrapped up in her world. The twist? Absolutely wild. I pride myself on guessing endings, but this one totally blindsided me and I loved it. It made me feel all the things: nervous, angry, shocked, even a little triumphant. It’s rare for a book to keep me that emotionally invested.

Reading this gave me that spark back the reason I fell in love with books in the first place. It helped me step away from my phone, breathe, and escape into a story that genuinely kept me on.

If you’ve been in a slump or just need something thrilling and binge worthy, do yourself a favor and grab The Housemaid. It honestly reminded me how good reading can feel.

  1. One of the best books I’ve read. A fast-paced psychological thriller that hooks you from the first page. McFadden crafts a tense, twist-filled story that’s easy to devour in one sitting. Though the plot leans on familiar tropes and some twists feel exaggerated, the suspense and mind games keep it entertaining. A guilty pleasure read for fans of domestic thrillers.
