Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Chocolate Mascara Makes Full Lashes Look Natural

While my beauty routine has seen its fair share of changes, my unwavering love for mascara remains constant. I’ve typically stuck to classic black mascaras, but occasionally, I’ll dip my toes into the world of blue, burgundy, or teal. It wasn’t until I heard that Too Faced had introduced a shade called Chocolate to their iconic Better Than Sex Mascara lineup that I considered trying a brown mascara. The idea of a softer, more natural look intrigued me.

Now, let me set the stage for my lashes: they’re pretty average overall–neither super long nor incredibly thick, but they do have a nice curl to them. When I search for a mascara, my goal is to add volume and definition to my lashes. Length is a bonus, but my main focus is on achieving separated, full lashes. Currently, I’m rocking Tarte’s Tartelette Tubing Mascara–it does an excellent job of defining, volumizing, and lengthening my lashes, making it a reliable go-to.

So, when I decided to give Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Chocolate Mascara a whirl, I was hoping it would hold up to my current favorite.

Using the mascara is a breeze, following the same process as most others. Simply use the wand to comb through your lashes from root to tip, repeating until your lashes achieve the desired volume, length, and curl. I applied about four coats of mascara, ensuring I wiggled the wand back and forth to achieve that separation and volume I love.

Having tried the original Better Than Sex mascara before, I had a hunch that the results would be somewhat similar to what I’d seen in the past, and for the most part, they were. Each time I wore this mascara, my lashes appeared beautifully voluminous and curled. However, I felt that the intensity and separation were a tad more subdued than my usual preference. The mascara itself is impressive, and while it might be best suited for those with naturally longer lashes (the hourglass brush and size could probably work wonders on longer lashes), it did provide a nice lift and volume. Moreover, I could wear it all day without worrying about smudging or flaking.

The softness I was looking for in the product stemmed from its color. This mascara boasts a gorgeous, rich brown shade that’s probably ideal for those with lighter lashes or a preference for a more natural look. When I applied it, it was evident that I had something on my lashes, but it didn’t create the dramatic effect I typically lean towards. With my dark lashes and complexion, I believe a darker brown, burgundy, or black shade would better suit my preferences.

So, if you’re in search of a mascara for a subtle, natural look or if you have lighter lashes, the Too Faced Better Than Sex Chocolate Mascara might be your go-to. For those like me who prefer a bolder, more intense lash look, you might want to stick to the black or darker shades. ???????
